From the steering committee's discussion of June 8, '11 about internet security issues, someone asked about Sandboxie.

Of the free browser protection utilities (for PC's) discussed here:

My favorite is Sandboxie:

On the subject of freeware (of any kind, many of which have versions for Mac as well) the best site I've found for this kind of thing is Gizmo's freeware:

Gizmos Freeware Reviews

In fact, some of the most informative stuff concerning the various freewares they promote can be found in the comment section below the reviews Gizmo offers, and it has given me a very good compass for the kind of firewall, antivirus, editing software, free word-processors, graphic design programs (you name it, as a matter of fact) that I have chosen for use on my computers. I especially love the way their various commentators inform about how they 'shopped and compared', and how the benefit of their experience helped me to not only choose the freewares I chose, but to understand their idiosyncrasies, strong points, weaknesses, etc.

Most of all, the best part of all about these things is the 'free' part.

I understand Comcast offers Norton antivirus for free to its customers, so good for you Comcast users!

I just recently tried Verizon broadband, thinking they had such a great phone service that they just had to be the best at wireless internet too, but I was mistaken. Suffice it to say that any company who gives you a gigabyte limit every month is offering you nothing more than a very limited wireless broadband service. For my part, I've decided to stay on with Clear Broadband (http://www.clear.com/discover) because I've been able to stream videos and radio 24/7 with it (literally), and they only want $40.00 a Month!

The best site I've found for freeware reviews is Gizmos Freeware Reviews and it's something probably just about everybody should know about. I also include their page for best free anti-virus software just because it's such an easy get:

Best Free Antivirus Software

Admittedly this site is a bit Mac-lite, but I just spent some time online with a friend working with a Remote Access program called TeamViewer, looked it up on Gizmos, and voila! It works on Mac, and from everything I've read in the comments from this page it seems to be a great interface between Mac and PC's (at least for its basic functionality as a remote access program), some file-sharing, as well as audio communication too. It could be a great tool for collaboration on certain things. Here's the best page I could find on that:
Best Free Remote Access Software

One thing's for sure, I'll be looking their site over one of these days when I decide to get a Mac, if for nothing else than to maybe find a site that serves Macs better (I think I remember seeing info to that effect on this site, but I just don't remember where).
Bottom line: It's been very helpful.

I've looked around for anything on Mac about firewalls, antivirus, etc., and haven't come up with anything convincing yet. I'm a PC guy so far (at least until I get my money straight enough to afford a Mac) so I'm not the best source of info on that subject, but I have checked-out various entries in (Mac's) forum. here's their 'blog' page:
http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=43
And here's something interesting I found in their News and Article Discussion area:
Mac OS X Now Updates Malware Definitions Daily

Something to do with Avast For Mac:

And Best Antivirus for mac:

If you read enough of these things you'll come to understand that, though there are some vulnerabilities with Mac, they bear no comparison with PC's. There has been some concern regarding this issue however, and that's why I post these links. There is some possibility that later, as Mac's get a better market-share, more vulnerabilities will be found. For that reason it's always good to know a resource concerning that kind of information, and macrumors is the best place I could find for that as well as free programs, apps, etc., which might be of interest to any Mac user.
